SMT topics in focus
Even minor deviations can directly affect process stability and assembly quality in SMT manufacturing, as placement nozzles are the only physical interface with the component. Their condition is therefore a critical factor in the placement process. Conventional approaches such as interval-based maintenance or isolated data collection often do not provide continuous transparency into the actual condition of individual nozzles, meaning deviations are frequently detected only after they have already affected production.
Closed-Loop Nozzle Management enables continuous identification, tracking, and control of placement nozzles across their entire lifecycle, forming the basis for targeted and traceable process control.
Insufficiently monitored placement nozzles are among the most underestimated causes of process risks and quality deviations in SMT manufacturing. Download our white paper to learn how Closed-Loop Nozzle Management provides full lifecycle transparency and enables targeted control.

Closed-Loop Nozzle Management connects identification, data collection, maintenance, cleaning, and control in a continuous loop. During placement, condition and process data are captured and transferred to Factory Equipment Center, where they are consolidated in individual data records and maintained throughout the lifecycle. Based on this, the use of each individual nozzle in production is controlled in a targeted manner.
The closed loop can be structured into five key steps.
Each nozzle is uniquely identified and assigned to an individual data record. This allows usage, deployment, and relevant events to be tracked continuously for each individual nozzle.
Relevant usage and condition data are continuously captured during placement. This data forms the basis for evaluating each nozzle’s condition.
All captured data is consolidated and analyzed in Factory Equipment Center. Based on this, nozzle usage in production is controlled.
Nozzles requiring maintenance or cleaning are removed and inspected and cleaned.nActions are condition-based and ensure that only verified nozzles are returned to production.
Based on condition and process data consolidated and analyzed in Factory Equipment Center, it is determined which nozzles are released for production and which remain blocked.
This ensures that only nozzles meeting defined quality and performance requirements are used in production and that the loop is closed.
